Which pump should I use??

Very nice. I just had to sell my 500 gallon reef. This is my down sizing.

Bum-mer. Oh well, at least you still have a decent size glass box. It's all about what's inside. Just smaller water changes and less work all around. Do you have a build thread for the new one ?

So you think one hf 20 will do the trick

Sure, it depends how big your sump and drains are. You don't want the water flying through your sump if you have a fuge especially. My BA drains are 1" and easily handle over 1200gph, so I dial them back a bit.

I did the math, 52x an hour is what my tank runs when my two mp40s are on full tilt and my 3 seaswirls combined. 27x turnover at the lowest. My advice would be figure out what you want the pump to do, what your sump can handle, and what your returns can handle. Then find a pump that matches that.

I had the dart gold on my dt at first, not enough flow IMO for that size tank. Got a great deal on the hammerhead, flows like a champ, I can run it full blast but then my sand ends up everywhere but the bottom of my tank. It's not hard to plumb in a bypass for the return pump, and it helps keep crap from settling in the sump. I'm by no means an sps expert, but I do grow some nice colony's without the help of additives or a calcium reactor.

That was just a frag off of my red planet colony.

I recommend a waterblaster pump.
They are very efficient and quiet. I have not had any problems with mine.
