So I've been in the hobby for about 8 years, currently have an ugly display tank. Not whats inside the tank, but it's a PETCO 40B on a metal stand with no sump. So I'm looking to re-home my fish and coral into a nicer looking display with higher quality glass, etc.

My options:

RS Reefer 170 for $990 or Deluxe for $1390
RS Reefer 250 for $1299

I like the size of the 250 but I'm on a second floor apartment. I also have one of Dave's Nanobox ATI Hybrids. It's a 24". If I went with the 170 it might be too much, so I may opt for the 170 Deluxe that comes with the Red Sea Reef 90 LED light. However, if I went with the 250 I'd just use the same Nanobox light thats currently on my 40 breeder.

I don't know if I'm a bit intimidated by the size of the 250 or what. It would be the largest tank I've owned, and being in an apartment I would think would make it a bit challenging. So in that regard I'm leaning to the 170 for simplicity and comfort. However, I don't want to regret not getting the 250.

Any advice on the matter? Or personal experience with these sized RS tanks!

I would go with the 250 if we are between these two. However you should also look into the waterbox 70 its basically the same as the 250 but slightly cheeper.

I just heard that it takes a while to get a WB and their customer service isn't the greatest because their such a new company.

Do you have a RODI? I would definitely want that before going bigger than your 40B. Lights should be fine on either. Also put the tank against an outside wall over multiple joists just to be on the safe side.

People generally will always tell you to go bigger except the unique little souls who really appreciate nano's and picos.
