I have been buying water for a while now and I am thinking it might be the time to invest in a RODI system. I have seen a few different ones and I do have some limitations and was hoping people can point in the right directions and maybe answer a few questions.

I was looking at the Aqualife 4 stage, as it fits the size limit that I will have to compete with. I live in a rental atm, so there can no be any really permanent mounting to the water source.

I was wondering if anyone has this setup and just curious as to approx how much water you get out of it before the filters need to be replaced.

I need approx 10-15gallons a month, depending on how many water changes I do. If I get a RODI, I might just end up making my own saltwater as well for my water changes.

Anyone have any other recommendations for a system? I need it around the same size as the Aqualife, maybe a tad bigger.

Thanks R2R.

I've been buying from Chris at AirWaterIce for many years. Good quality stuff, excellent service (talked to him just the other day, in fact), and decent pricing.

I've got one of their Hurricane dual home/reef systems, with a 5g RO pressure tank feeding my fridge for ice and drinking water, back through the DI cart and under the house to the sump room for ATO and mixing station use. Can't say enough good things about it. Our well water isn't the greatest. This saves me from dragging home bottled water all the time, ice is clean and crystal clear... and zero TDS water for my tank.

I got nothing against BRS, but for water filters, I'll stick with AirWaterIce.

I checked them out Greybeard, thank you. How is the compact system (Might Mite)? That will fit perfectly in my small apartment.

Also, about how many gallons you guys getting before needing filter replacement. Just a rough estimate.

That depending on your city water quality
Mine last me about a years with 20g per weeks

I upgrade to 150gpd with booster pump(less water wasted with booster pump)

I've got a friend bough a Mighty Mite. He was looking at a similar one from Ebay, and I pointed him at AirWaterIce. I think he's happy with his choice. Inline cartridges... nothing wrong with them, but they don't last as long as full size ones. AirWaterIce's units usually come with everything you need, a faucet adapter, pipe tap, drain tap... ready to go in most installations.

I refill my DI when the color changes 3/4 of the way up, or when my TDS meter reads more than 1 after the DI Every 3-4 months usually. All the other filters (except membrane) get replaced twice a year. Note that everyone's water needs are different... I have a whole house filter/softner that my well water passes through before the RO/DI unit, since it is a well, I don't worry about chlorine or chloramines, and we use it for drinking water and ice, as well as for the tank. Different usage rates, different water sources, never the same.

I agree with either the BRS 75 GPD or the AirWaterIce cant go wrong with either. To have the in-line TDS meter is a nice feature.

I have heard that boosting or going up to the 150 GPD can be less efficient though. You may want to check into that.

I have the Aqualife 4 stage. My TDS Runs about 175 out of the tap and my carbon and sediment last about 6 months and I get about 2 years out of my Ro filter. Making 30 gallons a week. DI change about every 3 months. I put a flushing valve on it as well. 100gpd unit. I am super happy with it. Everything you need to replace is on Amazon.

Ok, so you get about 360G (approx) over 12 weeks. What does a DI filter cost? The other filters seem to get about 1000G (based on 52 weeks) before you change them and what do they cost?

Also, this is with a TDS of 0? When do you normally replace? 1-2 TDS?

I have the BRS 4 Stage 75GPD Plus RO/DI System - Bulk Reef Supply: comes with all the different plumbing connections you may need: faucet, inline, etc. and the PLUS comes with a "flushing valve" which helps prolong your filters and it has an inline TDS meter. Very nice system. I like it. I live in a rural area and am on a well. So the pressure varies a bit and I get about 2 gallons per hour. And it is completely connected and ready to go. Only thing extra I had to buy was a floating shut off valve for my mixing tank. Oh, you don't need to mount it to the wall. It will standup all by itself. So very portable.

The most important thing to get optimal performance out of your ro/di is water pressure! Invest in a booster pump, it'll cut your di resin consumption in half! Also regular flushing of the ro membrane will prolong it's effectiveness. I use the smart buddie booster pump on my 10 stage system (Florida well water full of phosphates!), it has an automatic flush cycle and is super quiet and easy to setup. I have multiple tanks and make a lot of water and can easily get 2+ years out of an ro membrane.

I have never actually tested my tap water. I do not use it for anything...maybe a rinse of something, but nothing other than tank or rodi water. I do not use a ton of water actually. Maybe 15 gallons at the most a month and that if I make my own saltwater.

Aqualife 4 stage all the way,i have tried almost all in the last 20yrs,Aqualife is easy and when changing cartridges takes about 45 secs per cartridge
