Which room would you choose for your reef room?

Hey everyone! We are about to close on a house and the whole process is exhausting (including the move ahead of us!). I'm having trouble deciding which room I want my reef set up in. I was wondering what your opinions might be as to which room would you place your tank(s) in if you had to do it all over again? Each room seems to have its share of pros and cons and I'm stuck (or having a brain block).

I have mine on the same wall as my tv, I catch myself watching my tank more,,,

I vote basement (assuming it is finished). That is where I am most of the time and I get he added benefit of not having to worry about support under the tank or potential leaks ruining the ceiling on the floors beneath.

I think it's safe to say most of us spend thousands of dollars and thousands of hours creating these miniature marine echo systems. I say place it where it can be enjoyed by the most amount of people. I am in the process of putting a 200 gallon system in our formal living room. I picked a spot where the tank can run perpendicular to the joists and when we finished the basement I added a load bearing wall under the front edge of the tank an just incorporated it into the basement design. Where there's a will there's a way.

It all depends.
I agree with Lenny_S that you'd want it where it will be enjoyed the most. But then again, what if that means a much smaller tank???
You need to consider all options and weigh the pros and cons of each, which will of course all be dependent on you, you're family and your particular house.
I opted to put mine in the dining room because not only did it allow for the biggest (longest) tank, but it also allowed me to use the garage directly behind the dining room wall for a fish room.
So IMHO, there was no other spot in the house worth considering, even if it would be seen more elsewhere.

Have mine in the basement. What kind of floor does the basement have? If it is concrete I would say definitely go with the basement! Maybe I'm the only lazy one but not having to be so careful about spilling water and cleaning it up is a big plus on top of that I like how vibrant the tank looks all day because of zero natural sunlight taking away from the "pop" of the tank

My wife and I will be moving in the next couple of years and are planning on doing a 200+ gallon tank. At first, my idea was to put it in the office, but the more I think about it, the more I think that I'd like to have it in the living room or entry way. I'd like to have it somewhere that it can be seen by guests. With all of the time and effort that I'll be putting into it, I'd like it to be enjoyed by more than just me. I'd also like to have it somewhere that I plan on spending a lot of time anyway so that I'm not constantly going into another room just to look at it. We have our current tank in our son's room, since I'm pretending that it's his, and I spend a lot of time right now in his room doing maintenance or just sitting there staring at it.

I voted basement, being that there's plenty of room and you don't have to worry about clutter. Ideally I would like to have the display tank in the living room pipe through the floor and the rest in the basement But if I had to choose just one the basement it would be

I don't have a basement. It would be crazy to think what if I did. I put my tanks where I can fit the biggest. I had a 90 in the living room. When I went up to a 125 I put it in the kitchen. Partially due to keeping a newborn off the tank. If I had my option and house I'd do a huge system in the basement with another display in the living room. My dream is a 300dd.

The basement is finished, however it's more of a game/mud room. I am leaning towards putting it in the combo dining/kitchen because 1. It's tile flooring and 2. There's a wood burning fireplace right there (also shared with the living room) so if the power were to go out, I could at least keep the tank at room temp with the fire place. I could do the same in the living room but there's hardwood flooring there. Not a big deal breaker, but I did spill too often on my current floor. My tank is a 90 gallon but I haven't set it up yet, I just have smaller tanks all over the house at the moment.

I have mine in a finished basement! I wouldnt put my tank on top of my hardwood floors! You never know if the tank decides to overflow or crack... Knock on wood!!!!!!

You want it where you will be able to see it every day. Otherwise don't have a tank. I always thought a basement would be cool. We don't have them here in SoCal but I had them back in NY. But then I realized you never really go to the basement. Even when someone has a finished basement it's not usually used daily. Also if you have a basement think of if you need floor support. So something like a living room with some sort of room adjacent for filtration and what not would be perfect.

I still wish I had a basement though because I'd try to set up other tanks for experimentation, frag, oddball, etc.
