So I have been using the hanna digital salinity checker for my salinity readings for the past year or so and have consistently gotten a reading of 1.023 with an occasional jump to 1.024. I just bought a refractometer and tried it today and got a reading of 1.026. This is a day after getting a 1.023 reading with the hanna checker and not making any changes to the water. I guess the exact reading isnt that much of a big deal because my fish and coral have been completely fine and have never had any issues pertaining to salinity but just want to know going forward which device is gonna be better for the most accurate reading?

Refractomoter is better option. The Hanna digital one is garbage in my opinion. I would just use a good old refractometer. I do disagree with calibrating refractometer with rodi. I would use a calibration liquid sold on BRS or somewhere.

I always calibrate with solution I make using a small scale and graduated cylinder. Any reason you recommend using rodi over calibration solution closer to our target parameters?
No, calibrating around measurement is always better.
Like you are doing with solution.

I believe the difference is refractometer
Vs conductivity

I would pick one and stick with it and not jump back and forth between them
