Looking to switch salts. I'm currently using Instant Ocean but looking to explore other options.

Would love to know:
Which salt your using now -
What kind of tank do you have (Softie, Mixed, FOWLR, etc) -
How long have you been using that salt -

THANKS!!

I have a mixed reef and use coral pro salt as it mixes very fast. However I rarely do water changes any more.

IO usually and sometimes reef crystals if it is cheaper. Worked well so far. More than 10 years.

ESV. 4 parts, therefore it takes a little more attention to detail, but the parameters are rock solid and mixes clean and clear in minutes.

I used to use Fritz Pro Reef. Loved it when I was using it up right away, but it precipitates over time. When I started my AWC system, I switched to Brightwell NeoMarine. I can store it for a month with almost no precipitation.

I use tropic Marin pro reef salt, switch to it from h2ocean pro salt. I love the salt, you can almost guarantee what perameters it will mix to, makes keeping my tank stable super easy. I have a tank mixed of softies and Lps. Also use it on my softy tank, works great in both.

Mixed- Lps and Softies. Using Red Sea blue bucket not the Pro for few years now. Mixes in an hour and clean.

Why? What isn’t working for YOU? Asking what others use isn’t going to help you. Your tank is widely different than my tank, and everyone giving you suggestions. Decide what YOU are solving for and then people can make recommendations.

I was using red sea blue bucket but it's getting expensive in a 180g tank.
I just switched to instant ocean.
I'm doing my 1st batch now. Not happy at all with how long it takes to mix and no matter what, I can't seen to get it clear.

I purchased 2x 200gallon boxes so like it or not...
It's what I'm using.

have been using RC and IO for years but as of recent, haven't been able to achieve the numbers I would like to be at. Looking for a salt that is consistent with their batches

I've used both Tropic Marin salt and Aqua Vitro salt, both of which were good but I ended up using the Aqua Vitro as the TM precipitated very fast and took forever to mix. I don't do water changes often though so I don't really care that much.

Regular old IO, and have been since the beginning of my reefing career some 20 years ago. It's so dang consistent I don't even test it anymore.

Threads like this pop up all the time, and you'll see the newbies posting about the "salt of the month", yet regular old IO stands the test of time(been in use since 1964).

Mixed sps and lps. No acros, just easy sps.
I use a mix of the 3 cheapest I can find. Usually 2 parts corallife, 2 parts I/O and 1 part reef crystals. Was using only reef crystals for a long time but decided a couple years ago I don’t like the elevated levels of alk/cal/mag.

I used normal IO for 20 years in my mixed reef. I don't think a different salt will cause an "improvement" in most reef aquaria. :)
