which salt?

I've followed many "salt brand" discussions, and IMO the most important quality for a salt should be consistency. I'm sure that a majority of us dose. If a particular salt brand tests at say 450 cal. and another at 420, how hard is it to dose a bit more cal. on the 2nd brand? I look for a salt that I can see tests out at the same level and I don't have to keep changing my dose. However, I also like a salt that has some of the trace elements that I don't dose, therefore I do like to stick to a "reef" salt

U made a good point so if u can find the right consistency u can save money from buying dosing

you can save time and money by not continually have to test and adjust your dosing pump. I'd rather have a salt that might be lower on say cal. but is consist and I'll just set my dosing pump a bit higher but know that the next batch of salt will test the same, then to buy a salt that tests higher (say 450) but the next batch might test at 430. Still a good calcium level but now I have to monitor. Give me a salt that test 420 EVERY time (or close) let me set my dosing pump and be done with it.

Don't forget about salinity. salinity plays a big part on price as well. If salt A mixes at 1.024 and salt B mixes at 1.026, then you will need more of A to get you to your desired salinity. However, salt A is cheaper than salt B. But if your using more of salt A to get you to your desired salinity then salt A is costing you more money in the long run. making salt B the better buy.

Hope that makes sense

It really does make sense good thing I haven't brought the dosing pump yet otherwise it will be pita to monitor closely

I use Kent reef salt. I like the numbers it gives me and one of the features I like best is it comes in bags to mix 50 gals. at a time,so I can just add a whole bag to my mix barrel and not mess with a bunch of measuring.
