My Skimmer (SCA-302) is going out and I am looking into a new skimmer.
I am stuck between the RO 152-S, RO eSsence 130, and the NYOS Quantum 120.

I’m pretty sure I am between the RO eSsence 130, and the NYOS 120. My question to you guys:

Is the NYOS ok for a 80 gallon tank, and if so, is it worth the extra $100?

I have the RO eSsence 130 on a 75g tank and have had it set up for about a month so far.

After the break in, it has been consistent and skims well. It's nearly silent and is super easy to adjust. Seems like its well built and comes apart really easily for maintenance.

Nice! Thank you.

Copying from my post in another thread:

"I don't have a lot to add; a reputable brand like Reef Octopus, Vertex/Somatic, Bubble Magus, or similar should be fine. Another option is to see what used skimmers are in your area (with the usual caveats about buying used equipment).

One article I remember reading (https://www.advancedaquarist.com/2010/1/aafeature) stated that most skimmers are relatively equally effective (20-35% dissolved organic removal), so what you are paying for is build quality, pump reliability, ease of disassembly, noise, and other features unrelated to efficiency.

Partially related - what kind of filtration/nutrient export are you running besides a skimmer? I am personally a huge fan of macroalgae refugia (Chaeto), but there are multiple ways to accomplish that. Simply rinsing your filter socks out every 3 days or less (per BulkReefSupply's video on researching filter socks) helps as well.

Good luck!"

Based on that, I'd personally save the $100.

I have a reef octopus essence 130 on my 60 gallon heavy stocked tank. It works great easy to adjust, I just set it and let it run. Been going for about 8 months.

Thanks for that. Seems like a decent argument for the 130. Really appreciate your input.

Excellent. I love hearing that. Another argument for the 130. Leaning towards the 130 for 75% of the price.

I had the eSsence on my 90 gal and it wasn’t powerful enough. I had to upgrade to a bubble mag. I now have the eSsence on my 40b and it does well on little tanks.
