IM Nuvo 50 + Trigger Triton 20
tank in my build thread if you're curious
I'm leaning towards the Nyos or one of the reef octopus'
The Octo 150-sss might be too tall.

Nyos 120 - https://aquacave.com/nyos-quantum-120-protein-skimmer.html

Reef Octopus Classic 110-sss - https://aquacave.com/reef-octopus-classic-110-sss-protein-skimmer.html

IceCap K3-130 INT - https://fishtanksdirect.com/icecap-k3-130-int-in-sump-protein-skimmer/

I would choose this one: Cant beat the price

nice! that is a good mark down, thanks.
You would oversize the skimmer too? I want to keep the skimmer on 24/7 so do you think it would bottom me out? I don't run a refugium but I do have an auto fleece roller.

depends on bio-load. The Ice Kap K3 is also on close-out.....I have the bigger brother the K3-250....kicks.
That's a beefy skimmer. What size system are you running that in?

I didn't know of all the nice deals on that coralvue outlet.
They don't have the k3-130 but there's a good deal on a k3-160. The 160 is rated for 125g heavy bio-loads though.

But reef octopus does get a lot of love..

125G Mixed reef, runs 24/7 at 80%

Stuck between the k3-160 or reef octopus 150SSS. The question is do I want DC or AC pump. The AC skimmer is also reef octopus.

Edit: or maybe I go hard and get the RO Regal 150SSS for $390 which is marked down a lot too.

The K3 pump is a little louder then the octo pump for some reason......
Yeah I had read that it was loud. I also read that DC is normally quieter than AC.

but I actually have a k1-50 right now and it is 'a little loud' so I think I have an idea of what it might sound like.
I would prefer super silent but I don't think it is detrimental.

1st world problems. I love my RO skimmer and just purchased a replacement pump after years of use. I need to go hook it up, so off I go.

Heres mine on a IM 40gL ext and a trigger system 26

I would stick with RO -

The IC models in question may be fine, but IC is for the most part just a brand slapped on stuff so you never know what will come or go next. RO has a very good track record.

As mentioned above - if you can afford the upgrade, the DC skimmers are worth the trouble.

Would you go with reef octopus not a DC or one of the Simplicity or icecap DC skimmer? At the 300 dollar price point that would be my options.

but maybe - The Reef Octopus Regal 150SSS (DC) would leave me 3" of clearance above it. Any idea if that would leave me enough room to remove it?

3" would likely allow removal, but it is close.

I am not just a fan of IceCap anything. I don't know anything about simplicity. I just know RO skimmers are well proven over many years.

If other folks are saying the IC or Simplicity are good skimmers, i will not argue. I have never uesd them.
