Please explain. I am looking at the ATB medium and Bks. I would be interested to know your thoughts on this.

ATB Med- Air 950L/hr (Eheim 1260)
54 watts
Tank rating: up to 480 gallons (I would say 250-300g w/ a couple of big poopers)
$1199 w/1260

BK SM250- Air 1000L/hr
45 Watt
Tank rating: up to 800 gallons (yeah right.. 250-300g w/ the same bioload)
$1659.99

ATB Med w/ Airstar 1500- Air 1500L/HR
45 Watt
Tank Rating: ??
Price- $1300??

ATB Large w/ AirStar 1500- Air 2250 L/hr
47 watt
Tank rating: up to 798 gallons (Victor might be pushing it- :)

$1949

I have to say- BK are the Bentley of skimmers, The fit & finish is second to none..
Performance wise, The Med & SM250 both work extremely well and will do everything you need them too. The ATB's conical design does give it a slight edge in skimming efficiency.

Customer service is top notch w/ ATB.. I bought my skimmer 3 months ago and still speak to Victor weekly.

You can't go wrong either way..

Cool. Thanks for the info. I am thinking about the medium w/ airstar for my 90g.

That's overkill..
An ATB Small would be more than enough, maybe to much.
They have a new model coming out made for tanks under 100g- Give Victor a call.

I like to overskim though. I used to run a Deltec AP701 on my 75g tank. I figured the atb medium would be similar. The new system has a total water volume of 120g and it will be HEAVILY stocked. :D

U think it will be too much for the 120g with lots of fish?

I love and only use euro-reefs. I hear their customer service is not very goo dbut ive never had a problem. There skimmers kick butt IMO. I love them and they have never broke on me.

OK- But after this I'm done thread jackin

Yes- A Medium would be to much
I'm using a Small on a 120g display 200g system w/ 10 Fish *couple of big poopers, I feed way too much as well- got a Trio of finicky Luzon Anthias.
Here is my stock list-
1 Asfur Angel- 4"
1 Magnificent Foxface- 6"
1 Purple Tang- 5"
3 Luzon Anthias -3-5"
1 Velvet Multi Wrasse- 3"
2 Picasso Clowns- 2"
1 Clarki Clown- 4"

btw- My tank is 90% SPS, lots of "LE" colonies that are worth $$ so keeping them healthy is a must-

I understand why you would want an "oversize" skimmer.. The problem is- You would have a hard time keeping enough waste in your water for your skimmer to remove.. Unless you have 30 fish (but that would be crazy).

A Small would be more than enough-

Or you could always get a bigger tank ;)

Let me put it this way-
Triggerfish (from the Tampa Bay Forums) was running a Reeflo 250- He installed an ATB Med & ran both of them.. The Reeflo shut down while the ATB skimmed away.

ATB Med is a Big skimmer
:horse:

Mediums aren't supposed to be used on tanks smaller than 200g... Victor talked me out of buying one for my 120g... He suggested I wait till I do my upgrade...

I was looking at the medium airstar as well...

Agree with the others, where's H&S on your selection list? They have awesome skimmers as well and rank right up there at the top! I run an internal and an external and love them both!

Not everyone gets that H&S are as good as they are. They don't need to use colored acyrlic to draw in consumers and that they were around before deltec :D

well nguys, it is going to be ordered soon, and i thank everyone for their imput..... my buddy bought a bk and is more than impressed, and i think i am goin to go with the atb skimmer just to be a little different..... i really liked the supermarin250 for the size and output of waste, but they way i look at it if i buy the atb and dont like it, they loose almost nothing in value in a few months........

concrete reefer- could you pm me victors # so i can talk to him about a few things before i buy?

again thanks to all...

The Octopus Extreme and MSX Extreme are now the same skimmers with the same pumps.......

I think your best bet, in this order, would be an- ATB Large,BK SM250 (which is more comparable to the ATB Med), MSX300

Not sure if you've made your decision yet or not, but this is very solid advise here. The ATB cone is probably going to be the best pick from your list followed by the BK.

Here's another option:

The 300A and 400A are both using modified Laguna (Askoll) pumps with similar (if not better than) numbers to the BK's and ATB's.
