Hi all,

So currently I have softies and LPS in my tank plus one SPS (An Acropora hoeksemai blue that was given to me as a freebie with a previous coral order)

My tank is 4 months old so not looking to buy any soon as want the tank to mature for another few months.

I’m pretty clued up on softies and LPS corals but my knowledge on SPS is lacking and the frags I often see in fish stores just look ‘meh’

This might be a silly question but are there any like staple SPS that you should have in your reef, I’m not talking about just overall species names like acro or montis etc, I’m thinking actual specific species names so I can research.

In other words which ones would you recommend to get or if you were to start a new reef which ones would definitely be on your list.

I thought I’d better signpost that I’m from the UK so might not be able to get all the great corals you can get in the US. For example, I believe ORA.

Cheers in advance.

Green slimer is a good beginner sps imo and it’s a staple in the reef community as well.

I myself love millepora due to their usual long polyps and more hairy texture then some other sps. Although I don’t have any yet if the green slimer I just got does well I might add a Mille in a couple months.

If the hoek is doing fine I would go ahead with whatever you thinks nice. That blue hoek is a solid freebie for any order. Very cool branching acro. I would get one of each growth form if your only getting a few and choose colors that contrast well against each other.
