CaribSea Seaflor Special Grade. Small enough for wrasses to bury in but big enough to not blow around (as much as others). That would be my recommendation.

Argonite, but if I had it to do again, I'd get the black kind. Looks so kewl... especially with a black tank background. Bet the SPS colour would POP! Probably wouldn't show all the grunge and cyano as much, in the dsb.

Tropic Eden 100%!! Just put reef flakes in my 240 and couldn't be happier

Tropic Eden! I have it in my 160, others in my area are really happy with it as well.
My last tank had seaflor special grade, it is a very distant second place to tropic eden

Hands down, Tropic Eden Reef Flakes and it is the cleanest sand we have ever used.

Is the Mini flake too small? I like the look of it but don't want a sand battle on my hands for a mixed reef tank.

I'm using both mini and regular for looks, but no sand storms with plenty of flow

Is this a live sand?

No, not a live sand.

I don't think mini flakes would be too small either ..... i went a dsb in mine so actually used the 'snow' but put some mini flakes on top to minimize a sand storm .... I have a mixed reef with pretty high flow and the mini flakes did stop most of the blowing around. I had some sand movement for the first couple weeks until the biofilm developed and now I'm good ....

Do not get that black garbage! It WILL get stuck in a mag float and it WILL scratch your tank! I read it in a review and ignored it and it scratched my tank to hell and back.

What's the best live substrate

If you are wanting the "real" live sand .... I've used sand from Tampa Bay Saltwater and from Florida Live Rock. TBS was much coarser - definitely won't blow around..... Florida Live Rocks was finer but had a variety of sizes - and had some heavy corraline shell rubble etc and better color - in my opinion. I prefer the finer sand look so if I were to go with a live sand again I would use the latter. Both sands were definitely live though - much different than the retail bagged "live" sand.

When I upgraded the tank with the TBS substrate I wanted an even whiter sand so I went with the Tropic Eden and just seeded it with some sand from my 90 that had the Florida Live Rock sand in it and added an additional detrivore kit. It is taking a bit longer to get my dsb really rolling but for looks it is by far my favorite..... and I would go with Tropic Eden again hands down.
