I am looking for tang to go into my Red Sea reefer 250 which is like a 55 gall tank...any suggestions? Please chime in, the good, the bad, what to stay away from. The ank is fairly new, right now I have 2 bangi cardinals and 2 anthias in the tank.

Perhaps a bristletooth tang. Yellow/blue eye Kole or Tomini. The zebrazoma and surgeonfish types would grow too large.

The genus Ctenochaetus has a few options that would work. The genus includes the aforementioned kole and tomini tangs.

See you pulled out the tang police lol those will be fine in your tank it's not about water lol.

Agreed you could easily do any of the bristle toothed tangs, just be advised it WILL be the boss of the tank and should be the last fish added. I've kept both kole and chevrons and they do have a subtle but effective way of letting everyone else know whose in charge

UGH......
Recommendations are that tangs need large tanks but I have seen 40 breeders with two small tangs in there and NO there isn't such a thing as a dwarf tang
My $0.02 is don't do it.

After looking up the dimensions for your tank and realizing it's only 36" long, I would advise against getting a tang bc that is not long enough for a full grown bristletooth. Yes it's possible in a normal 55G with minimal rock work, bc of the length, but I would never suggest a tang for a 3ft tank.

Ok I will skip the tang. What would be your stocking list if you guys or gals own this tank?

I had a tomini in my 55 (42 inches long) for several years and he was a nice tang but got a little stir crazy the last 6 months or so. he got to where he would swim back and forth like a caged lion at night when the moonlights came on so I rehomed him to a person with a bigger tank. I currently have 2 occelaris, 1 Royal Gramma (love him, a real character), 2 pajama cardinals, 1 mandarin. I had a solar wrasse in the past that I adored but did not have a cover and he jumped out :(. lesson learned.

Royal gramma, ive got one in my tank, stunning colour and really fun to watch. such a busy wee guy who has made himself a den in the seaweed and its great to watch him doing the housework in his den with all the loose seaweed.
I would also advise against a tang, too. Nothing worse than seing a stressed tang in a tank to small, can do damage to itself and your other fish.

It's not a great idea to keep any sort of tang in a tank that they don't have a great ammount of swimming room. That being said, I kept a small yellow tang in my 50 gallon cube for a year. He is still in my 120 gallon today.

My fish guy found me a tomini that was the size of a quarter. He's about 3" now. I've had him for 5 years. Started in a 75 now he's in a 120 with a yellow.
