So, I'll be getting a new tank. I have one plan (which I'll post about if it happens, a bit of an unusual design).

My backup plan is more conventional: it will be a 36 by 1x area tank. VR28woman wants it to have an internal overflow ("it looks better that way". Fine). I am thinking of two options:

1. a seaclear acrylic 40 breeder. 36x15x16. I'd drill the bottom for an internal overflow. (recommendations? I'm not finding any with a quick google search). One concern I have is the top - it's not totally open on top, and so this might impede with light and trap heat inside, especially since i intend to use halides.

This is $260 from Petsmart and then an extra ?? for the overflow. Plus the time spent begging, borrowing, or stealing a drill, installing, setup, etc. :) I do kind of fear that this is an apparently easy DIY project that would become bigger and harder because of things a newb does not know.......

The plus is that it's acrylic and therefore it'll be lighter and clearer than a glass tank.

2. A Seaphora 57g rimless tank. 36x18x20. This comes with an internal reef ready overflow.

$450 from my LFS.

The plus is that it's ready to go (compared to the seaclear). On the flip side, the tank is somewhat expensive, and probably quite heavy........
