I am setting up a 180 gal FOWLR that I am expecting to have a heavy bioload. The tank has a single overflow with a 1.5" drain, the pump is a Sicce 5.0 pushing water up 5.5' of head

My question is which Vortech for circulation mostly to keep the detritus suspended in the water so it can be removed via the overflow.

MP40(s) or a MP60

I have a 120 gallon tank. I have two MP40's on it and it is just enough for my tank. I don't think it would be enough for a 180. If you were planning on having three mp40s then that would do the job I would think. I don't have experience with MP60's but I tried to get my friend to get two of them for his 180.

I honestly cant see how either 2 mp40's or one mp60 would be enough to keep the whole tank with enough flow. My friend with the 180 FOWLR has two Karalia 550's, two karalia 1400's, and one Karalia Magnum 7. and it keeps the tank flowing well. I went and saw it this morning and was surprised how well it was doing. With that many pumps it really didnt seem to have any dead spots. I hope this helped :)

I have a 180 with a mp40 and a mp60 on the other end. IMO, I think two mp40s will be enough. The mp60 is a nice addition to my tank but I needed alittle more flow due to me having a reef is why I went with it. But 40's should be fine, thought a mix or two 60s are great choices as well.
