I have a 46 gallon bowfront mixed reef, lots of zoas/palys/. softies, 3 BTA's, & misc. LPS...wondering if I would be okay with an mp10 or should I get a mp40? It's basically replacing a SEIO 1100 prop pump. My plan is to position it on the back will in the middle of my tank.....I'd like to hear from people who have vortech's on their tank currently. Thanks in advance.

I think an MP10 would be more than enough. I have an MP10 in my 29 SPS tank running on Short Pulse Mode peaking at 30% max power. I can splash water out of the tank if I turn the power up. These Vortech pumps are incredible!

So, save your money. Unless you intend to upgrade to something larger than a 75 Gallon in the future, the MP10 will be more than enough power.

That's kind of what I was thinking, not upgrading anytime soon so an mp10 sounds like the way to go.....just out of curiousity where do you have yours placed in your tank?

Mp10 should work great. The mp40's are very strong.

I have my MP10 placed on right side of the tank, about 3/4s of the way up. On the opposite wall I have a Koralia 425 blowing at an upward angle, and I also have the return from my skimmer on the back wall. It's a pretty turbulent tank.

Thanks again guys for the input. Appreciate it.

Mp40.. and just run it 50%.. way quiter than using a mp10 at 100% .. plus you can use the mp40 with any size upgrade in the future :-)

i would say go with the mp40 but run it less then 50 percent. i have 4 on my 75 and they are great when you decide to upgrade.

just go with the manufactures recommended size vortech per your tank size.

The more research I do the more I'm leaning towards the mp10, like I said in my OP it's to replace a PH that is 1100gph so it's an upgrade either way...
