Which wave maker

Hi guys

I have a 30 gallon tank, about 2foot by 1 foot. I'm upgrading my wavemakers but don't know which to go for. I'm think either 1 maxspect gyre xf230 or 2 power heads one on either end. What do you think. I don't have that much coral in the tank.

I would probably go with a gyre between the two options

the dual powerheads IMO would take up too much space

If you want sand the gyre will be too strong in a 30 gallon.

Gyre would be two much for a tank that small unless barebottom. Try an MP10 or a Nero 5 if you want controllability.

I was gonna go with the gyre but never taught of the sand.

all depends on what you want and what you have. I bought cheap power heads and even middle of the road power heads and non satisfied me until I bought an MP10. I should of just bought that from the get go as you’ll probably end up with one if you stick around the hobby enough . The flows it creates is sometime else.

Mp10 hands down for that size of tank. Controllability is super for flow and you can adjust

Would 1 mp10 do for a time being because I couldn't afford 2 straight away

Oh yeah, you can most def get away with 1 in 30g. I have the nuvo 20 and 2 is too much. I have one side off mostly except for 30-45 minutes at night I will turn on for stirring up the tank to export nutrient . I can do anti sync as well which I haven’t ventured yet. You’ll need the wireless version with reeflink to do this .

The flow is broad and not focused like other power heads . This is preferable because you are not blasting the corals .

Great cheers for the reply. I know a chap selling 1 for 130euro so I might think about getting that instead of getting a brand new. There 300euro in my lfs here in Ireland.

Yes I have ome only 40B and it works just fine I was it turned down because it's a low flow type of system
