As often as I can, I post a poll on my Facebook page called: WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE? It's become quite popular, so I thought I'd see what the reef2reef folks thought too! I will do my best to post the polls here also!
If a new aquarium store was opening in your area, which would type of establishment would you choose?
1. A NO-BS store selling only tank-reared livestock. A store selling high quality dry products along with aquarium raised coral, fish and plants (fresh and saltwater). All fish sold are captive bred, and plants or coral are propagated in-house. The prices are equal to or less than even ebay. The staff not only understand how to care for the livestock, but will help a customer to the point of losing a sale. Literally, if a customer does not know what "the nitrogen cycle" means, the staff will educate instead of sell. Even an experienced aquarist would need to describe their system set up before buying, to ensure that the livestock would receive proper husbandry and housing. In return for following the stores strict guidelines, a customer would get replacement of any and all items lost, with proof of guidelines followed. The store would offer a relationship with customers, in which they always help in times of need and literally guarantee a successful tank (also providing a customer with the ethical standpoint of never taking anything from the ocean). But, the store rarely has anything extraordinary to offer, because they care so much about quality that "new" items are no longer new by the time they put them up for sale.
2. A NEWEST-AND-BEST store selling the most unique coral, fish, plants and inverts in the world. The owner has connections with the best collectors in the most remote locations, so if a unique new coral is about to hit the market, you'll find it at this shop (even sooner sometimes). Envision coral with colors you had no idea existed, plants that local stores never carry and fish that "so and so" said could not be kept in an aquarium. The store provides no guarantee on livestock, because a buyer is expected to research and understand the needs of these unique organisms before buying. You won't be asked the size of your tank when you purchase a Seadragon, but you also won't get sympathy if you fail to keep it healthy. The staff lists coral and fish by their scientific names, and if you're looking for a new seahorse species or exotic plant, this store will be the only one carrying it. Coral with the colors you didn't even know existed, yep.....they're here. All livestock is collected using sustainable methods that are legal, so it's literally just the best of the best, for anyone willing to pay more and take risks.
Which store would you want in your area? Don't forget to tell me WHY in the comments! There are no wrong answers
.
Since this is already TLTR, let's make this more interesting! Now that you've made your initial decision, tell me.....would you change your mind if I mentioned that all other aquarium shops would be closed forever? If only one shop in the entire world would remain, would that change which type of shop you chose? #aquariumwishes #whichwouldyouchoose#shareyourthoughts #saltwateraquarium #freshwaterplantedaquarium#exoticfish #exoticcoral #whatdoesqualitymeantoyou
