Ah I see! I don't have this on my apex jr. I imagine you can set it to do whatever once it senses the EB8 lost wall power.

You don't need the APEX at all for this battery back up system to work. In fact it's best if the battery system is stand alone. Supplying power to the APEX is part of getting alerts if you lose power, that's all.

But you need a device that can take an additional 12V input. I briefly checked to see if Jebao has this, RB definitely sells the whole system but not sure about any individual cables to hook it up to a DIY version.

What pumps do you have?

I think I'm going to create a detailed thread on this system. I've gotten a lot of questions about it and I think it's a super solution to the problem.

If you have any quick questios I can answer them.

I will post a link to my thread once it is created, hopefully by the end of the night.
I would love if you did this!

Hello, great write up. I have several questions and items I would like to explorer. I have 2x jebao return dcs1200 pumps that have 24v adaptors in thoery if I can get 2 x 12 volt agm battery's (connect them in series) along with charger can I do the same? Also I have a coralvue dcs pump on skimmer. That pump is 36v can I do the same as above just add 3 batterie sources.

I would love if you did this!
Me too. I have the Jebao PH's connected to a UPS to run for a couple of hours, but adding the return cuts the run time down drastically. I was looking for a solution so that I can run both the PH's and return for few hours or more.

Wow! stories like this are the ones that make me a little scare of the hobby. Hello everybody im a new member and new to the hobby, I'm about to set up a 120 gallon this will be my first big set up and when I read something like this it makes me a little scared to go trough with the project but I guess planning and preparation is the key. I'm definitely going to get some ideas for a back up system from this posts.

I travel all the time for work I am usually not gone for more than 2 weeks at a time, I depend on my Apex to tell me what's going on. I will never run a tank with out a controller

Here is my DIY version for the mp40's

From my calculations it should run them for about s week

Sorry quick question, how does apex notify you via email when the power is out , if your modem is off because of the power too ?
