White black sun coral base

I have had this black sun coral for a few months. A couple weeks ago, the base started to turn white. It seems to have stopped, but how long will it take for it to recover. I also have a healthy balanophyllia a few inches away from it. Does anyone know what could have caused the base to turn white.
