What might this be? It looks smooth. It is about the size of a gold ball now. Will it come out and get us while we are sleeping.

It appears to be a smooth white blob. It has been there for months and is now the size of a golf ball. I do not see any holes in it for a siphon.

Sponge

Agree with sponge. Harmless filter feeder :)

I always thought is was a sponge but don't they usually have holes for water to go in and out? I am only used to seeing small pineapple sponges.

Kinda looks like an evil brain.

Not always. Sometimes the pores are very small...like in this case...

Thank you. You have to look right from the corner of the tank into a hole in the rock, 3 or 4 fish get in the way and I cant get my glasses right to see it clearly.
