White cheek tang

Hi all,
I’ve been trying to find a white cheek tang and haven’t been able to for the last few years. I know they mostly come form Hawaii which I’m sure is part of the reason why I can’t find any. But has anyone seen one or have a lead on one. Before the tang police get me, I have a 180 so there’s plenty of room lol thanks

I've have honestly had the best luck with my LFS. I know they aren't always on the list when they order but they check every week when they order. Took about a month to get one in.

Most online vendors have them available. I’ve seen powder brown at LFS but few white cheek. Why a white cheek over powder brown?

White cheek are often slightly less aggressive but neither is a “friendly” tang by any stretch. They aren’t as hardy as powder brown, either.

The two are misidentified as one another very frequently.

I prefer the look of the white cheek over the powder brown. I know it’s not the most friendly of fish, but based on my research they seem to be a more docile of the bigger tangs. Just haven’t had much luck these days with any of the 3 lfs I have around me finding them.

I wouldn’t consider the white cheek docile in the slightest. Once established they can terrorize almost as bad as their evil cousins. I just want to set the right expectation. If you try to add tangs lager, or if he’s an “only tang” or one of only a couple in a 180, there’s a good chance he turns in to a little tank terror like the others.
