So I came home to clean my tank and noticed my new who was already dying completely deflated and was a slop in a corner. I went to take it out without thinking to turn off the pumps and my power head blew white cloud and some small chunks of the nem all over my 73 gal dt. I was able to get the whole new out and netted the chunks. I have a total 91 gallon system. Would a 12% water change help prevent my livestock nd fish from dying? Im a bit concerned and trying to prevent anything from getting sick/dying at this point. Any immediate help will do- thank you. Ive got my salt mix going right now - Red Sea coral pro. 15 gallons of new rodi water.

nothing will die from anything that came off the nem but you can do a water change to be safe

Add fresh carbon.
I dont have any on had but I will get some tomorrow. Im sure it won't be too late. The ammonia didn't spike and my nitrates went up by 10ppm to 20ppm. Which I just got it down a few weeks ago from a 25 to 10. Im sure all along its been this anem that was releasing its toxins, maybe causing my nitrates to be up. I did turn on my UV.

Your tank will be OK. The water change is probably a good idea, but not an absolute necessity. If your tank is all cycled and has enough live rock, it should all be good.

I'd just run carbon and do a water change but if something bad was going to happen, you would know by now.

The best proactive thing you could do is to turn your skimmer up, skim “wet” and empty every hour for a day, or until it stops filling so fast. Then readjust it back to normal. Use your new saltwater to replace the wet skim.

That’s exactly what I did! I’m so glad my instincts took over and did hopefully the right thing it seems. I just hope my skimmer didn’t over flow when i get home tonight lol

Thanks for the help guys!! Hopefully this takes care of my bacterial bloom I was having. Or whatever bloom it was. There was also some dead chaeto latching on to my pump chamber and going into my dt. Was an ugly brown algae. I took microscopic pics of it if anyone can help me identify. Might be for another forum tho.
