I’m currently cycling my 5 tank over the years. It’s veen cycling for 4 weeks ammonia has really started to drop and I thought it was about done.

Last Thursday the tank started to get a white haze. I figured it was just a bacteria bloom like I have seen in the past. No big deal.

Now here I am 5-6 Days later and the haze is still there.

Used dried rock that was cured before entering the tank. Then seeded it with a few pounds of like rock from LFS.

No fish no corals.

Thoughts?

I had a tank do that after I put a Skimmer on it that dumped a ton of bubbles while in the “break in cycle”.

White haze is likely a bacterial bloom. If it is this should correct itself as the available food source for the colony dwindles. As a result you will have a die-off in the colony and will spike nutrient levels prompting for a few large water changes.

For whatever reason the tank cleared up this weekend. It was cloudy for 10 days which seemed super weird but looks great again now.

Just thought I would post an update.

I had a tank crash and neglected it for almost 3 months. Recently, i cleaned out the entire tank, did a bunch of water changes, cleaned the sand, added a few drops of MicroBacter and BOOOM, milky water overnight.
It's been a week and the water is still crazy milky, no matter how many water changes i do.

Also, keep in mind, all that bacteria could consume all the oxygen in the water, so make sure there's plenty of surface agitation. If you have an extra air pump or air stone, it might be good to use it.
My air pump is being used in my QT right now, so i just have my return and powerheads pointed towards the water surface.
