White coarse algae??

I have a bunch of white coarse algae growing in my tank. It seems to grow best in shaded areas but will grow in better lit areas also just not as lush. 1/2 to 3/4 in length.

Anyone know what it is?

I have this is my tank as well. Agree with Crabs that it's some type of sponge, but I'd like to know what type. So far, it seems harmless.
