Hi i recently ran red X to remove some dinos and now a few weeks later there is this strange type of algae growing on the glass. Looks similar to corraline but it is a very light grey/green. Dont think ive ever seen it before and its limited its growth to the glass only.

Hasn't really done anything negative besides make the glass spotty. Its slightly see through.

I also have this I also don’t know the answer but I believe it is normal coraline that is not growing properly due to not having proper trace elements or something off nutrient wise. I will follow this also hoping someone has the answer

Seems like a logical conclusion or the chemicals he added somehow bleached his new coraline that was in its early forming stage.

I only feels a trace elements or nutrient thing because me having the same issue and I have never added any kind of chemical or cleaning thing

calcium deposits (similar to lime) which is the beginning of coraline

Most likely but he said this was a post effect of the chemical treatment so using your theory the chemical removed some trace elements or nutrients essential for coraline growth in his case? Perhaps different in yours if you have not used any chemical but suspect your lacking trace elements to some degree. I'm dosing red sea trace now as of last week.

I was going to guess the same and say its bleached coralline but it grows far quicker than the purple coralline around it and the structure is more similar to a bunch of thick layered plates unlike the purple coralline.

Reminds me of Green Coralline, which normally features a deeper green coloration. This tends to establish itself before pink/purple coralline; the pink/purple coralline eventually overtakes the green coralline.

Did you ever figure this out? I have the exact thing happening in my tank. Only recent change is to my lighting.
