White dot on Lemonpeel Angle tail fin... video.

I have a Lemonpeel in QT right now that has a white dot right on the very end of its tail fin. He moves to fast for me to get any good still photos of him, so I took some video. The dot is about 2/3 from the bottom. You can view the video in full screen and still have good quality.

Any ideas what this might be?

It will go away eventually.

Since its in qt probably there is some sort of stress that might cause lympho to show. Dont worry its not lethal on the tail and it will eventually go away once the fish settles and the immune system recovers.

Thanks guys. After reading the thread Humble posted, I figured it was from stress and/or water quality in the QT tank. The HOB filter I have does not seem to be keeping up with the water parameters I'd like it to. I'll need to address that today or tomorrow.

I've noticed something else on its tail, this time on the side. It seems to be getting bigger/worse, but it's not a dot like the other. Here is another video. It's hard to see it clearly, but at the first start he passes in front of the black filter tube and you can catch a glimpse of it. You can see it again throughout the video, but the last few seconds probably show it the best.

The LFS I bought it from runs copper in their systems, so I don't think it is ich.

Well, just two days shy of hitting the 3 week mark in QT, the lemonpeel died last night. I saw no signs of disease beyond the lympho. It never ate very well in the first two weeks, but this past week it was eating the LRS nori quite well. Two days ago it seemed completely fine. Yesterday I did notice that it was kind of swimming in place (I think against the current in that spot, but not the strongest current in the tank) and the wife told me that she found it laying on its side last night before she went to bed.

Thank you. I knew swimming against the current was a sign, I was just not sure that was what it was doing. And as I said, there was no other signs (no spots, no flashing or rubbing). The QT set had never been used before, every thing was new including the water. Could Velvet have been on the fish for roughly 21 days with no other signs and kill it in just one?

If the fish had been exposed to subtherapeutic copper before you got him, then it can take up to 30 days for velvet to become a noticeable problem. And sometimes dinospores invade the gills in such high numbers that they literally choke the life out of the fish before visible symptoms ever manifest on the skin.

Thanks Humblefish. The LFS I got him from does run copper in their systems and a friend that works there did say that the amount fluctuates some (I don't recall the amounts, will have to check my txt messages again).

Most LFS do not test their copper levels on a regular basis. If it dips even slightly below therapeutic, that can allow some free swimmers to survive treatment. You then buy a fish with a slight case of parasites and some immunity to them. The end result is a ticking time bomb which blows up about a month later.

According to my buddy that works at the LFS, all of their tanks are .15 and they shoot for .35 unless it has fish that can't take that high.
