White dots on blue tang after switching tanks?

Hey guys, I upgraded my fishes tank and now I’m noticing white dots on my blue tang which is probably ich or velvet… I’m so confused because I’ve had him for several months now and he’s never showed sign of ich and I moved him into a new cycled tank with new sand and rock so I’m not sure where it could’ve came from unless he already had it without it showing. Tank is a 112 Gal system and the only fish are 2 clownfish and a blue tang. No new fish had been added yet

These guys are prone to ich and these look like mucus cones associated with past ich or skin reaction.
Best is to treat with coppersafe at 2.5 for full 30 days monitored with Hanna copper test kit and maintain good water quality

I know I can’t treat the DT with copper since it’s going to be a reef tank in the future but I only have a 14 Gallon cube that I could use for quarantine. Is that going to be enough for the 3 fish for a month? And I’m assuming the tank is going to have to sit fallow as well correct? I’m so annoyed I just got this set up and I was excited to stock it lol

Yeah, blue tangs are kind of known for that. It's called stress ich and happens when the fish is stressed/moved. If it doesn't go away quickly/gets worse then apply your standard ich treatment

Hmm I have a 60 Gallon cube (24”x24”) that I set up but doesn’t have livestock yet. If I took the sand/rock out of that and repurposed it to be a QT do you think it’d be a better option than say a 20Gal long (30”x13”)?

This does look like ich to me, not mucus plugs/cones.

Since it is a new tank, can you run hyposalinity?

Some of that is probably mucus, but others look like ich trophonts. These trophonts can vary in size as they grow.
In my practice, I would do a diagnostic skin scrape and confirm under a microscope. We don’t have that ability here, so we have to rely solely on visual clues.
