white dots on glass, feels like sand

Ive noticed an explosion of these all over my sump and not sure what they are, any ideas? Macro photo at the bottom.

Little tiny micro fanworms basically. They filter various who-knows-what out of the water. If I get them on front glass I usually scrape them away, but if they are anywhere else I leave them. They are helping to filter my water in some way.
