White eyed coral beauty

I have a 92g tank still on it's infancy. While I am out of town for the past week my daughter got me a Coral Beauty and added to tank. She calls me tonight and says it has a white spot on one eye. I have Qt tank and all the equipment I need but nothing is cycled. What is best approach for me here. Will Qt not be ready quik enough or can I help tank cycle with live rock from sump and possibly even some of the nitro-bac I have left from Red Sea mature kit I used to initially cycle main tank.

I would add nit bacteria, add some live rock and treat with kanaplex. But would add a ammonia badge to keep an eye on it

Is this something I need to Qt all fish or is it fungal not contagious like that.

As far as i understand its bacterial. Which i also believe kanaplex is a broad spectrum antibiotic. @Humblefish. He would know a lot more than i and he has every right to feel free to correct me if im wrong

Thanx. I'll be home tomorrow and start treatment. Hopefully he can chime in by then and let me know how far I need to go. I've been trying to get head around how to cycle Qt without sand or rock but now I'll learn on the fly. At least I already have the equipment.

Is the eye swollen at all? Seems like an injury, especially with it being only one eye. Is the whole eye cloudy or just the middle?

typically we say that if it's just an injury and not badly infected then to feed with vitamin supplements and keep the water perfectly clean. Watch for infection (swelling and turning fully cloudy) and for the infection to spreading to the other eye. You'll want to take him out and treat with Kanaplex in a QT at that point. I still wouldn't jump to antibiotics too early, but you can certainly feed the kanaplex in their food if bound with Seachem's Focus first. This can be done in the DT but run carbon -if you dont already- just in case.

She says it does seem swollen. Only white in middle close to front. I'm having her try and get better pic for me.

That would help quite a bit. You can try a couple things in the DT. Epsom Salt is reef safe and will help reduce any swelling.

Epsom Salt: Treats eye and other injuries. Popeye in one eye usually means injury, but popeye in both eyes usually denotes a bacterial infection requiring antibiotic treatment. Cloudy eye can be a bacterial infection or flukes.

How To Treat - 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of aquarium water. Repeat only once, if necessary. Use only “USP” grade Epsom salt.

Pros - Reef safe, as Epsom salt is just magnesium sulfate.

Cons/Side Effects - The effects of excessive sulfate in a reef aquarium are not fully known.

Then you can feed the Kanaplex like I described before with Seachem's Focus to bind it and make it reef safe as well. Doing both of these things should knock it out pretty quick, though I would keep up with the kanaplex for 10 days straight.

Yes you can and it will help with that swelling. I stand by my advice above. Doing the antibiotics now wont hurt him and I think it's early enough that taking the meds orally will still help him.

Much appreciation to both of you. I'm 500 miles from home and it's comforting to know what I need to do when I get there. Plus big wake up call to quit dragging feet on qt. You had it right with kanaplex and melypr filled in rest of game plan. Big sigh of relief here.[emoji122]

No problem. I have most things down as far as some of the common diseases and what to do but meypr has it on the back of her hand
