White film over yellow tang

Morning I’m completely new to saltwater aquariums. I’ve wanted one forever and finally decided to take the plunge. I’ve had a yellow tang for about 2 weeks. He’s great haven’t had any issues. This morning I noticed only under all blue lighting that he has a white ish film over a good portion of his body but nothing appears under regular lighting. All water parameters are where they should be and he’s swimming and eating.

A pic would help greatly if you could get one. A white film that only appears under blue light. Sounds like maybe velvet. Hard to say without actually seeing it though.

Please post actual numbers related to your water parameters. Being "completely new" to saltwater, it would be wise to let more experienced members decide if your water parameters are acceptable.

A white dusting does sound like velvet. Can you post a pic? Do you have a QT you can set up?

Agree. Brook doesn’t generally cover as much of the body in its “dusting” stage focusing on the top half of the body near the dorsal fin area.

Velvet will cover a fish in a white or golden “dust” and quickly which can be hard to see in some lighting at first.

Is the tang breathing heavily? Scratching? Swimming in to flow such as powerheads? Behaving cryptic? Hiding from light?
