White Fluffy Growth on Candy Cane

Hi, I noticed this white sort of fluffy growth on a candy cane the other day, and I really don't know what I'm looking at. I haven't tried to scrape it off, so I can't say for sure what its consistency is.

Hopefully the pictures help rather than me further butchering a description for you.

In addition to a positive Id, I'm hoping you will tell me it is great to have, and I should consider myself lucky that it is growing so nicely.

Looks like some kind of sponge to me and does not seem to be doing any damage. Probably a good thing.

it is a friendly sponge and it is growing nicely. not sure how much financial value it has but it is a fun curiosity

Thank you both for the replies, ID, and the reassurance. I'm not sure if it's a tube ball sponge, but it does have a similar look.
