White fuzzy spots on my Sunset Monti?????

Ok so my undata is starting to do the same thing. My sunset has gotten worse, and I'm not really understanding what I should do. I have been running my alk for the last 8 months around 7.5 and they were doing awesome. I mixed a batch of alk that was too strong, and it spiked up to 9 in a 3-4 day period. I quit dosing for the last 10 days or so, and only dosed last night. I tested just now and the alk is holding steady at 9. Should I try to just keep it at 9 or let it fall? I'm not real sure how it is still at 9 for not dosing for 10 days, but I'm just wondering if keeping it steady now where it is at is better, or to let it fall? But at the same time, my corals look like crap...what to do?

I had this happen to me just recently. I was transferring a sunset monti frag and it developed the white spots but went away after a couple weeks. I believe the difference in alk between the two tanks caused it. Just my theory but other people are saying that as well so it looks like alk is a good possibility for the cause.

My alk was around 11 and after coming down to 9 it has been doing fine. I actually have been slowing increasing up to 10.

I don't think it's nudi's personally, I have had this colony in the tank for at least 5 months and I dipped it. You would think they would have shown there face before now. I am going to go ahead a dip it again and see how it looks.

Honestly, the only reasons I would think they are not nudis are those I mentioned. Timelines, dipping, etc would not be reasons, IMO.

Maybe you dropped salt creep on it?

I have not ruled anything out, but there has been no salt creep, no stinging corals, and no signs of pests. I honestly think this is an Alk thing. So does anyone have a suggestion on whether I keep the alk where its at, or let it go back to where its been?

I've had alk ruin my sunset monti before (way high...like 15dKH). But it was always the entire colony, never spots like that. Are they still spots?

yes, still spots, but just much worse.

Well it just seems to be a little odd to me that the spike of alk was nothing out of the normal ranges. I mean 9 is really not high, but maybe the swing in and of itself was enough.

Weird cuz I used to have my alk go from 7s to 9 all the time with no problems. I keep mine at 9-9.5 now since I dose daily now so not much swing but I never had anything react in a negative way. Of course I don't have a sunset monti so I have no experience with that particular reaction.

check your alk and calc. your monti might be damaged or burned because of the alk/calc swing. It happened to my monti cap is the past.
