White growth?

Anyone know what this white fungus like stuff is on my live rock and what it's doing? The other day it didn't have these strands coming off it and was totally flat,it also looks to be growing chimney type shapes from it as you can see in first pic???

Yeah just googled it and think your right it does look like one but says they only thrive in darkness,I'm one the middle of a cycle so I got the lights on 12 hours a day,is this gonna kill it off?

prob not, they are also feeding off of the water colum. i believe that the chimneys might be where they expell the filtered water.

Well it doesn't seem to be doing any harm and lots of creatures living on and u set it so ill leave until it grows too big,thanks for comments guys.

Well now that I'm 2 weeks into cycling my brand new tank I was told the tank would turn brown then green then a velvety texture,then he said its ready for stocking as long as the readings are fine.which they are so far.
