Hello,

Can anyone tell me what causes them to do this.

At night when the polyps are closed, or semi open, on some I can see what looks like a white halo, looking like some of the zoox has been stressed or killed.

It's like a white circle just where the mouth is if you know what I mean. It's not spots or pox I believe, but o think it may have something to do with light levels, I just can't tell if it's from too much or too little.

An image would be of great assist.

If the coral is other wise normal, not reaching, opening each day routinely, good coloration and reproducing then I would not be too concerned, but without an image it's hard to speculate.

The lights are on now so I can't get a photo of them closed tight.

This is a colony that's been playing up a bit recently.

This is right on the far side of the tank and this is outer facing side of the frag so it should be getting less light than any of the others, no stretching that I can make out.

It's not the best example but from the 2 new new polyps that have sprouted, that white halo on the top is what I'm seeing on a few other zoas also and you can see the polyps near the new ones are not happy either and aren't fully open

I'll add that I've not moved the zoas. I did have to remove my lights for some tank maintenance and I forgot exactly how they were set (kessil a350)

Has anyone else got any suggestions on this before I start fiddling with the lights?

I can see today some zoox being expelled, can zoas bleach from lack of light or is this only a sign of too much?

Other observations are, skirts not fully extending, some have taken a dark pigment, some look really light and washed out but fully open
