I have a 100 gal mixed reef tank coming along. Running for 2yrs and there's a white looking algae growth on some of the reef rocks but only the shaded areas. Came on quickly a couple of weeks not sure if its a coincidence when I started a bio-pellet reactor due to high nitrates 60ppm. see pic, hopefully someone can identify and help me irradicate thx in advance!

update, I can easily scape off with a tooth brush just to much to get in all those not reachable areas

I would leave it alone if its sponge. Is it just on the underside of the rocks? Or all over? One of the beautiful inhabitance of the reef. Unless its bacteria which I don't think it is, it is good for your bio-system. Bacteria is usually slimly.

Maybe some one else will chime in...

not slimy almost feels like when you ball up threads and its mostly in the under shaded areas on the rocks not on glass
