Ok all you gurus of fish diseases, About 5 days ago I picked up this Copperband Butterfly. At the fish store I didn't notice anything on him, but I probably didn't look hard enough. I was more interested in if he was eating (which he was and is). They stated he had been freshwater dipped when they first got him and he had been with them for about 4 weeks with no sign of problems. They keep their salinity at 1.020, and mine is at 1.025 so I knew I had to acclimate him. I took about 1.5 hours to acclimate him and placed him in my observation tank which has been up and running for about 8 months (so fully cycled). He immediately started eating with no sign of distress at all, but upon looking at him I noticed a white ball like thing on his right fin. It doesn't seem to be growing or spreading, doesn't seem to bother him at all, but it is very noticeable now that I know its there. Sorry about these crappy photos as he doesn't seem to want to stay still for me to get a good shot. He is constantly pecking at the rocks for food.

Lymphocystis maybe? Since I have never seen it before I don't know. Other than that white growth he seems to be acting normal, no scratching, stress, swimming into power head. He is pretty much just always nose down pecking at the sand and rocks. Any other ideas? Any suggestions on treatments. I do have another tank I can set up for medications, but I don't treat prophylactically anymore. Seems I caused more harm than good doing that so now I put them in an observation tank and just watch for about 2 months before going into the display. My LFS has a pretty agressinve QT process and won't sell a fish for 3 weeks after getting them for QT purposes so I figured why put them through it twice.

Very well could be lymph

Agreed. I would just keep an eye on it for now. If it's lymph, it might get bigger and more...fluffy? Trying to think of the right word [emoji23]

Thanks all, That is exactly what it looks like so I guess I will just have to wait it out and start adding selcon to his food. Will the virus die when it falls off. Basically after I clear him up and move him to the DT should I break down the observation tank and sanitize it or will it just die off and I can add more fish?

It will never die, he'll always have the virus. But it should eventually go dormant or the fish's immune system will prevent flare ups. However, if he gets stressed or the immune system is otherwise compromised, expect to see the nodules again.
