Hi guys,

IF you recall I was battling velvet or something last month. I think I may have cleared that with CP, however, the fish are scratching from time to time. I doubted the CP worked but now I think it did work.... but the big fish all have white marks on their eyes. Upon close observation it looks almost like a worms or something. The marks sometimes goes away but this weekend it came back even more. I've tried all of the following but have not been able to clear them:

- F/w dip multiple times. Nothing falls off the fish
- CP
- Multiple rounds of prazi
- General Cure
- Rid Ich Plus Bath (45 minutes)
- Kanaplex

I get Formalin-MS this week so I will try that too. I just dont want to put them back in the display with some strange worm thing on their eyes that can spread around.

What else can I try if Formalin-MS doesnt work?

How long did you run the kanaplex?

That one is questionable. I had to stop treatment because of medicine interaction with CP. That's one thing I can try again, however, all the fish have it.. so its suspect to me that it was an injury? I assume Kanaplex is only used if I assume injury of the eye?? I can definitely try it again for full length this time.

Well out of all the things you tried, flukes should have been taken care of - or at least shown themselves in the freshwater dips. The most likely thing is infection in the eye. It's weird that all the fish have it, but I would try running the kanaplex or possibly Erythromycin instead for the full treatment and see how they react.

I don't think it's relevant to your situation at this point but I'm curious as to where you sourced your CP?

My initial batch was from eBay which is suppose to be from Fishman Chemicals. I just got a batch from Diamondback Drugs last week. The CP used on the fish are from Fishman.

+1 I would try an erythromycin + minocycline combo before I exposed the fish to formaldehyde. Just erythromycin should work if this is an eye infection.

Okay, I just did a full round of both "API EM Erythromycin" and "Maracyn 2". Five full days according to the directions.. There have been no improvements to the eye situation. It still appears like flukes or some worm inside the eyes. They look translucent.

So far I've done:
- Full course of CP
- API EM Erythromycin and Maracyn 2
- F/w dip
- Multiple rounds of prazi
- General Cure
- Metroplex in food
- Full round of kanaplex
- Rid Ich Plus bath

These eye marks werent there before the velvet breakout... Now they are present on all the larger fish. The clowns dont have it though. Any ideas? Regal is scratching his eyes every now and then.. not very often but he does do it if I observe him over course of 2-3 hours.

. Five full days according to the directions.

You really should do a full ten days and see if that has any effect. Antibiotics are notoriously slow acting in fish and require more time to help.

I mean, I know you've tried everything and nothing is working. If it is indeed prazi resistant flukes and I'm gonna be nitpicky about this, I'll point out that you used Rid Ich Plus (which only contains 11.52% formaldehyde) and not full strength formalin (37% formaldehyde): http://www.fishvet.com/Formalin-MS.htm

In the past, I've only used Formalin-MS to clear stubborn flukes.

Thank you both. I will continue with the antibiotics for a few more days, and then run Formalin-MS bath to see what that does.

Just gave formalin-ms a try. Still eyes have the spots afterwards though. Instructions say 20 drops per gallon for bath. It didn't have a dropper so I just used a standard aquarium dropper. Added 45 drops for little over 2 gallons. Did I do it right?

Sounds like you did. I'm wondering if the white marks aren't just permanent scarring at this point.

Thx! The drops seems so little but I guess formalin is strong.

Just checked last last night. Some of the marks are gone. Wondering if the formalin helped. I will try again when I'm back in town.
