I have two Red Sea Peninsula tanks, the 500 and the 650. On both thanks I have discovered white mold, probably aspergillus, growing on the aquarium stand, specifically in the area above the sump. I have installed a dehumidifier in the basement and I’m keeping the humidity to not more than 50-55%. I have also installed fans moving air out of the sump. These are computer fans, quiet, IP67-certified and capable of moving slightly more than 70 cfm each. Both tanks have two fans, one moving air away from the sump and a second moving air from the controllers area next to the sump to the outside of the stand .

I’m open to any suggestions regarding how to solve this problem. Should I place a UV light in the sump to light up and “sterilize” the wood infected by the mold? I am not currently running a refium in either tank.

Hi,

I was not clear. Are you looking to just clean what is there or find A solution to keep it from coming back? If it is in the stand a rag soaked in a vinegar solution may work, or a bleach solution if used carefully. Not sure about keeping it from coming back except some type of mold resistant paint, but generally would stay away from anything like that in a running area.
