With white, you should get some reflected light so the underside of some corals will get light. Same as a white sandbed would provide. but over a short time it will be covered in coraline algae anyway.

i used showerboard, covered it in a two part epoxy then layered in with sand and crushed corals. gave it a natural look with out the sand storm.
here is a couple images

most definitely black. will make the colors POP! there is a reason my frag tank has a black bottom!!!
but these folks are right - unless you scrape it, it will be purple in no time.

Go black, you'll never look back

Hey Brian, the black starboard turned out nicer than i thought! What are the measurements of your tank and what measurements did you ask them to cut for you?
I just bought there 2' x 4' sheet and cut it to the correct demensions. I had to make a template of the overflows you will have to do the same. I am really happy with the way it looks, go for it!
Yeah it really looks great, what did you use to cut it? Also how much space did you leave in between the glass and board?
I used a tablesaw to the cut the width and depth and a jigsaw to cut out the overflows. Cuts easier than wood! If you can bring me the board with the demensions and a template of the overflow we can cut it at my house. You will need to measure the caulk bead on your tank and we will subtract that amount. On my tank 5/8ths of an inch was a pretty consistant measurment? LMK
