Hi there, everything in my tank looks good, fish, toadstools, acan, zoas but every time I top up with ro and I have sourced it from several different lfs, the water is completely filled with small white particles like a snowstorm. After several hours itcalms down but then as soon as I top up its back again.
This morning I tried slowly pouring 500ml into the dt instead of the sump but no joy either.
Does anyone know what is happening?
Thank you
Jen

Any pictures of these particles to help us out? More than likely are precipitate particles from the large mixing tanks at the LFS...

this is concerning to me as there should not be particles of anything in rodi water. do you have photos? are you testing this water with a handheld tds meter?

I would stop using it if you are positive it is coming from the water, and not being mixed up in your tank when you pour the water in....there shouldn't be anything at all in RO/DI water.

I'm going to change my source. Thank you. I wonder if you could tell me what my ideal calcium level should be? I have a mixed reef. At the moment it is 410ppm and dkh is 8.5. Ph 8.4.
That would be really helpful. I have purchased red sea kh/alk and calcium supplements but not used them yet.

I would suggest getting a handheld TDS meter and check any fresh water for a zero reading, before adding it to your tank. They are not expensive. Don't trust LFS to have ideal water quality. Some change their filters regularly and some do not. Better yet, go ahead and spring for your own RO/DI filter so you can make certain you are starting off with good water for top off and water changes.

Those numbers are all fine....I normally keep my Ca between 420-450 but 410 is good. Your dkh and PH are both good also :)
