The bag had a small rip in it and I think that allowed moisture to get in, my questions are what is the white precipitate(I think its calcium carbonate) and is it ok to still use?

I'd mix up a batch, let it settle until clear, and measure the alkalinity. If it is not too low, then the salt is OK to use. :)

The hardened material may be calcium and magnesium carbonate, but it might also just be sodium chloride that solidified.

Cool! Thanks
