Thank you so much for your advise and time!Looks like sponges. These are generally harmless filter-feeders and a sign of a healthy tank ecosystem. However, there have been an quite a few reports of sponges smothering corals in recent months. I once plucked sponges off a rock without ill effect (and they did not grow back). However, as sponges may release toxins when disturbed, it might be better to follow this advice from the thread below, though I have never tried this:
