Don't believe it is a pineapple sponge, but it is some sort of sponge. IMO.

Harmless, and nothing to worry about.

Bc you don't know exactly what it is and the last thing you would want is it taking over your tank

It's a Tethya sponge type and harmless, no intervention is warrented.

Have to agree. I would just leave it be, and enjoy the diversity in your tank.

Unwarranted fear of sponges. I've seen a couple posts where you advise eradication.

Why sponges? Almost 30 yrs and I have never ever had a problem with sponges and I have intentionally and unintentionally kept a lot of sponges. I am sincerely curious as to way you view sponges as a potential threat to your tank.
I am be a little haphazard but I usually wait to banish a hitch-hiker unless it's something obviously detrimental such as majano/aiptasia/hydroids....

I'd like to know, too. He'd have nightmares over my tank which has at least 8 different kinds of sponges. This one is on its way to eat my Euphyllia paradivisa.
