Hello reefers [emoji846]

So I started my first ever reef aquarium 1 month ago. I am at day 27 in my Cycle and I used marco rocks and red sea mature kit.

So to the problem last to week I have had a lot of problem with slime and string algae, they are everywhere. I try to remove some from sump, overflow and rocks but they come back as fast, everywhere i tuch there is a slime coating.

I still have no fish or cleaning crew as I am waiting for my parameters to get where I want them.

So will this go away by itself? Is it bacterial bloom or something else?

New tank uglies. Things come and go during this phase .

The mature kit uses nopox I belive.
Stop using it.
It’s bacteria food. That’s little strings of bacteria.

Yeah stoped using it 3 days ago but got a bit worse. The strings is not the biggest problem but all the slime i have to remove each day. Does nopox create that aswell?

Yup. That’s all giant bacterial colonies.
No pox is strait bacteria food.

It’ll pass. Just takes time.

It’s bacteria..

For what it’s worth I don’t think Nopox is your issue because I had it show up in my sump overnight in my new empty tank with nothing but water in it..

The tank and sump where filled with about 50 gallons of fresh mixed saltwater made from 0 tds RO/DI and then I added a few gallons of water from an existing ULN tank, next morning sump was full of same slime.. First time in 30+ years of reefing I have ever seen this.

A few days later I put about 20 lbs of real ocean collected rock in the tank to cure and in about 8 hours the slime was gone!

So fast forward 3 months the tank is running really clean ULN no fish and very light bio load (trying to avoid early algae issues) and slime is back in sump..

Two days ago I pulled Carbon, filter sock and letting skimmer drain into sump, it appears slime is clearing up again.

I battled cyano similarly in another tank by pulling carbon and running tank a little dirty until it cleared so I thought I would try same method with the clear slime and it seems to be also related to ULN conditions

Ok thanks [emoji4]. Should I do something else to speed it up? No lights? Or try to remove some from the rock or just wait it out.
If you have a uv some say it may help. You could do massive wc.
I’d just wait

It happens a lot with the mature kit honestly.
There’s other factors yea. But it’s common.

Dont have a UV atm just started out :). I did a 30% water change 2 days ago, not so massive but still and cleaned all pipes, sump, overflow ect.. one day later slime everywhere again lol... dang Bactaria! :)

UV will do nothing for bacteria that’s sticking to surface areas only what’s in the water column and it’s been my experience that water changes only fuel it.
