Hello R2R, I am a new reefer with a Waterbox Cube 20 that has been set up now for about 2 months. Periodically, my return pump shoots out white slime into the display which in turn gets shredded by my powerhead into a flurry of nasty gunk that is polluting my display and impacting my enjoyment of the tank.

I've taken the pump out and cleaned it which helps for a day or two but inevitably I will find more slime in the display. It grows in the back chambers, in my return pump and powerhead, and everywhere else it can, all of which i have cleaned time and again to no avail.

Salinity 1.026
Nitrate 2-5
Ammonia 0
(These are the only parameters I have test kits for ATM)

AI Prime 16hd running a reduced intensity Saxby schedule
Nero 3 powerhead (Random mode 15% - 35%)
~25% water change every week
Activated Carbon in mesh bag in rear chamber

I've searched the forum and others have had this issue but I haven't found a solution. Some say its because of organic carbon in the water? I do not dose anything other than small amounts of ammonia (I have been dosing ammonia for the entire 2 months period my tank has been set up as I only got fish in there yesterday)

Experts of R2R, lend me a hand, I want to enjoy my tank without a bunch of mucus clouding up the water! Thank you for your time!

It sounds like a bacterial bloom that usually happens when carbon dosing. We typically skim this bloom out before it becomes a "blob".

No idea why it's happening in your tank though.

Pics of the "slime"?

Hey Homer, the only picture I currently have is the one I have posted in the OP as I have just cleaned it all out again. All of the bits in the water column are shredded pieces of slime.
