Reefers need your help here.
I'm having this white slime which is overtaking my tank for a month now. Its in the sump rocks and sand now.

Just added 1 fire shrimp, 2 cleaner shrimps and a pair of clown a few days ago.
Now the tank is cloudy even after I did a major water change of 50 percent a day ago.

I've been using Aquaforest Probiotic salt since the start of cycling. Maybe theres a carbon source which cause this issue.

Nitartes are at 2ppm.

Please help this poor refeer out!

G’day mate! I can definitely tell you from my own use that aquaforest probiotic salt has a very strong effect on bacteria especially if you started tour tank with 100% af salt. It’s not a bad thing it will clear up but be careful you don’t bottom out nutrients.

Hey lasse. So far just the regular AF products. Bio s and the Probiotic salt. I've stopped bio s after 2 weeks of using it. Currently the tank is 3 months old.
Just swapped with the regular AF reef salt. Stopped dosing Dr. Tim waste away too.

Tank's condition getting worse. Cloudy and full of the stringy white slime. It's even on my sanded now. :(

Hey mate!
It's been more than a month of this mess. Could t get rid of it. It's been countless time where I need to scrub down my sump.

For each time I do a sock change the residue will flow into the display and I'm back to square one. Nothing works. Nitrate at 2ppm. Planning to install a UV.

If it as bad as I think - you have dosed dissolved organic carbon in three different ways. I suspect an overdosing of organic carbon. Just stop all type of dosing and just do some WC with the regular salt

Sincerely Lasse

Do use any aerosol product in the house? Do you drink or have alcohol by the tank? Do you burn candles by it? Any smoking?

Probiotic salt is not a salt to establish the tank with. It is a conversion salt, intended to use after Bio S cycling phase. The salt contains bacteria, carbon source, vitamins, and aminos. This is after cycling, the AF Reef Salt is a much better choice. Why? The tank cannot use the carbon source, aminos, or vitamins, like dosing a lifeless tank with these said additives. Now, consider the fact that you are essentially dosing multiple bacterias, or should I say, over dosing, you have essentially induced a bacteria bloom, it will fade in time. I would do water changes with non Probiotic Reef salt, and balance through water changes. Once cycle is complete, then slowly do 10% water changes, with Probiotic Salt, in tandem with NP Pro, and Pro Bio S, should you decide to use the Probiotic Method. Otherwise, I would not personally even consider using.
Cheers

I stopped using Air fresheners and diffusers a month ago. Since then I read it might be one of the cause of white slime.

I've aired the house every day since. No improvement tho.

No smoking or alcohol by the tank.

That stuff is vicious and horrifying.

Tank is fully cycled. Did experience a week long algae bloom during cycle. Water was crystal clear for a month without any livestocks. Did dose 10 to 15 drops of ammonia chloride jusy to dirty the tnak and feed the bac with nutrients.

I've swapped with the reef salt now. Added a pair of clowns,2 cleaner shrimps and a cbb. All doing well.

I think I spent more time cleaning the sump and tank rather on the livestocks.

Crazy, I know. I'm installing UV later on I'm the day. Hopefully it'll help with the issue

I know mate! It's crazy. I'm unsure what's the root cause of this crazy mess. Too. Many variables, no solution

I spent 2 months cycling. I don't wanna scrub down and restart all over aagain

Well because of it my house almost burned down. Water overflowed over the sump got on a surge protector. It literally clogged the return pump. I would tear down and restart the tank only for it to come back randomly weeks or months later. I moved houses and have never had it again.

I feel you man. I can't afford to tear down. Lol
Ill start with uv and heavy feeding.
Some said higher nitrates will compete with the bac in the tank resulting in the decrease of slime.

Definitely bacterial

Just installed the uv. Tank cleared up Significantly. Keeping a close eyes on the slime.

Slime. Don't seem to be spreading any where as fast as it used to
Filter socks are clean too. Will turkey baste the area with the existing slime. *Cross. Fingers

Any new updates? I’m having the same issue, everything is covered in slime. Not sure what to do.

This happened in my tank. It was solved after adding 3 times de indicated amount of activated carbon and phosphate remover. In one week the tank is 90% clean.
