I am currently battling what I have diagnosed as a bacterial bloom. Large string of white slime have begun to develop in my reef tank and I have started performing water changes to remove the slime but the slime continues to grow back. I think this could possibly be caused by the use of air fresheners in the house any thoughts on causes or cures?

I’d look into different methods for air fresheners .
spray , or mist in the air whether it be cleaning chemicals or freshener will settle in out system .

Air fresheners, volatile organic compounds(VOD) phthalates can create an airborne bacteria. The aerobic bacteria will feed off free oxygen thereby robbing tank inhabitants of oxygen. I‘d definitely look into vods and phthalates. you should be able to find lists of stuff you don’t want to be using around your tank

I have heard the air freshener idea, not sure where the idea can from. Keep an open mind about other ways organic matter is getting into the aquarium.

Just read up on air fresheners. The organic material they emit does not strike me as bacteria food nor are they particularly water soluble. The emitted amounts per hour per cubic meter don’t seem to add up to much of a potential for organic material entering the aquarium.

I am in favor of hunting for a source of bacteria food. Think carbon dosing while you consider all the potential materials entering the system through feeding or through the air.
