So have this slimy, snot like buildup in my sump around the skimmer and all over and inside my filter socks ... I’ve read it’s some kind of bacterial bloom, but wondering if anyone knows for sure and how to make it go away. Used to be pretty pronounced on the water surface of my sump, but added a powerhead down there to move the water more, and that has helped. Reason i really want to get rid of it is it clogs my socks within a day or 2, where before i was getting 4 or 5 days before my sock chambers would start to overflow. I’m not dosing Nopox or anything other that All for Reef, and am running a 25 watt UV for my 130 gal system. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That furry filter sock is definite sign of bacterial growth that really only occurs when there is an excess organic carbon source.
Not sure what the source is in your case.

That’s what i keep reading when i do reasearch online, but have never dosed carbon or anything like that ... any idea what else might cause it?
