I haven’t been able to get a picture yet .
but have noticed on a few occasions.
White , smoke looking swirls floating around normally in the evening just before or after lights out .

it almost looked like it was coming from one of the maxi mini carpet anemones on the top

not the same as the urchin sperm that it releases ......

Could it be reproduction or chemical warfare between the maxi mini and carpet anemone on the sand bed ?

Do you happen to have a Foxface in your tank? They shed the coating on their spines occasionally. My FF does it about every 2-3 weeks. It doesn't seem to bother my corals or other fish at all.

Yes I do have a ff ..

I don't know how to insert a link, but if you search on R2R "Foxface exudes excess toxins", there's a video of a lion fish doing it. You can see if that's the same thing you're seeing in your tank. It is 100% what my FF does. Good luck.

If it's from Trochus snails it should be pretty obvious. At first you will see a little white "packet" that becomes smoke. Later it usually looks like this when they get fired up.
